Just as I'm really getting into Teen Wolf, the fandom is exploding again. I swear, I have never seen so much wank over the existence of a pairing. Like, I get the Wincest vs Destiel ship wars in the barest sense that I ever understand ship wars (because they're pointless; it's cool if you like your pairing and I like mine), but can't we agree that yes, we like canon gay pairings (i.e. Danny and currently Ethan) AND we like Sterek? Or we can like one or the other and still get along? I don't understand the people that are promoting boycotting Monday's episode just because it doesn't have Sterek. STEREK WILL NOT HAPPEN IN CANON. I am as firm a belief in that as that Destiel will not occur in canon. I know many people disagree with me on that part, but while I think we see Dean and Cas care for each other on the show, we're not going to get a kiss or a gay sex scene. Sorry. It's not that kind of show (i.e. it's not HBO/Showtime/based on gay characters). So why do we need to boycott the show? (Not to mention, unless all those people boycotting have Nielson boxes, Teen Wolf won't even notice.) You want to make your point? Keep up the emailing and letting Jeff Davis know you're still interested in Sterek...and you can doing it without bashing Jennifer/Derek. The whole bashing of Jennifer Blake reminds me of Jo Harvelle. People HATED her before anything ever happened. We have hardly seen anything of Ms Blake yet to judge her. Do I think it's kind of weird that Derek turned to her instead of his uncle or Scott or something? Sure. But I'm hoping the show explains it. At the very least, I don't blame Ms. Blake for it. Do I ship it (yet)? No. But I don't need to be down on a canon pairing to support my fanon pairing - particularly when I know nothing about it yet.

Likewise, I am just rolling my eyes at the people responding to the boycotters by yelling "queer fetishization"!! Are some of these boycotters maybe doing that? Sure. Or maybe they're just young and haven't figured out things yet. But obsession with a pairing =/= fetishization. Are the non-canon het shippers "fetishizing" het? I've certainly never heard anyone called on that. It just means people are freaking out and being avid fangirls (or boys). That's the very nature of fandom and shippers. Some get a little...enthusiastic.

Is there no way to handle this calmly without name calling or boycotting shows? Ugh, fandom. Sometimes it's more stressful than "real life".
