I've been somewhat absent, so I'm hoping any friends who were in the path of Harvey and the Mexican earthquake are okay, and all my friends who are going to be affected by Irma - I hope you remain safe. I wish I could do more than that, to truly help.

I've been wondering about you.

Things are tense here. I don't know what's worse, the actual storm or the watching and waiting. I hauled Mom's yard crap in yesterday and finished photographing everything a bit ago with the exception of my collectables and managed to squeeze my car into the garage. We've had supplies in for several days. Now I just have to finish taking pictures and finish my packing. Mom has been acting like she's never been in a hurricane. I think I'm more diligent, because I used to live in a manufactured home trailer instead of an actual house. I am not messing with this storm. I wish there was someplace to go, but this is the part of Florida where evacuees come. When this is all over I'm going to start pressuring Mom to get the hell out of here. I'm guessing it will be fruitless, but I am sick and tired of the weather crazy and it's only going to get worse with climate change. It is not normal to have 3 major hurricanes at the same time.

Yep, we're hunkering down. I'm terrified. I was doing fairly well until I watched this local weather guy, because the one I usually watch isn't on, because this is Florida and heaven forbid they don't take off college football for an emergency. I'm watching a different guy and he's ratcheted it down a lot. Part of me wishes we'd gotten out, but who knows if we would have chosen the right place. There's a lot of people who evacuated and then had to evacuate again.

I'm not scheduled until Tuesday morning. They closed at 5:00 PM tonight and won't reopen until sometime Monday or so is the plan. I don't want to wish this monster on anyone else, but the further west the better for us.

I'll try and keep you posted. I have no idea what the storm will bring. If the house stays dry and the wi-fi stays on I should be able to be online intermittently.

One of the scariest things is that the worst conditions where I am is going to be about 2AM. These damned storms just love to come through in the middle of the night. I really don't want to be in a house with trees through the roof. I keep wondering if we should have gone to a hotel. You never know what the right thing to do is. If you're in a trailer it's a no brainer, but in our situation we should be relatively okay, just maybe unpleasant. My mom can't even sit on the floor in the interior hall when the time comes. This is easier for youngish people, physically. I'm not only terrified by the storm, but I'm terrified that Mom will do something stupid and we won't be able to get help for hours.

Sorry I didn't keep in contact. I was trying to preserve my battery to stream the local news in case the satellite went out. And then I had to wrap up the laptop and put it in the bathroom closet, just in case, and then I left it in until early this morning. We're still having tropical storm winds this morning, but everything on the inside seems okay. I'm itching for daylight so we can at least look out the windows. There were some "interesting" sounds last night. It'll be interesting to see if there's still a screen around the back porch. It's not over yet, but it's a big improvement over last night. The scary bit is that we can be sitting here this morning and thinking we're okay, but the trees could still come down because of the tropical storm force winds and the weakening the trees may have undergone in the sustained winds over night.

Mom's going to have someone check the roof and attach a loose piece of siding. One of the neighbors picked-up the limbs, which was lovely. The other neighbor's tree stayed up so far, so I think we're good.

So far that's what it looks like. Mom has someone to check the roof. I am not excited to drive to work, which is almost an hour drive on a good day. I have no idea what I'm going to run into. As of yesterday, the town I work in had a 100% power outage and a lot of flooding. It looks like the flooding part is near the water in downtown, I would think that they wouldn't be opening if the highway that runs in front of the store was impassable.
