I loved it. Pretty much. Particularly the development for Watson and Sherlock. The end, when he tells Irene "2 people can surprise you"? BAM! Love.

A few things. One? Totally spotted a bit of belly on Joan and my friend and I looked at each other and she goes "you're thinking she looks pregnant, right?" I agreed, but while she just thought it was the shirt, I was convinced Lucy Lui does not have a tummy of ~any kind, googled it and sure enough, she's pregnant! Cool for her. It made the bee thing at the end particularly interesting.

Two, ummm, how much did I LOVE the bee thing at the end? Naming it after Watson? I literally whimpered and said "FEELS". My friend looked at me askance.

And finally...Irene as Moriarty. Initial thoughts. I had several moments watching this tonight that made me think of The Mentalist. One, when Irene said "if he wasn't so determined to have you as his nemesis, you'd be great friends." Made me think of when Red John's mistress tell Jane "I can't believe the moment you two shook hands you didn't becomes friends" which was suggesting Jane and Red John are very like, much as Irene was suggesting about Sherlock and Moriarty. Two, I can't help but think, they're not going to reveal the big bad epic Moriarty plot and end it all within the first season. That's not how American TV works (think, again, 5+ years of not knowing who Red John is). That combined with the fact that the writers are being very specific about adhering to canon elements (i.e. the drug addiction) makes me think they're not going to so dramatically alter original canon and make Irene Moriaty (cool as that would be). But we do know Irene works for Moriarty and she also mentioned "lieutenants". That line seemed very key to me. And thus, I ultimately am reminded of the S3 finale of The Mentalist when Jane (and more so the audience) thinks he has met Red John because he knows intimate details...only to find out in the premiere, he wasn't RJ, but just a loyal protege/follower. That, I suspect, is the role of Irene as Moriarty. The masterminds don't leave their dens and traipse about the world conducting their affairs personally. That's what they have henchmen and, sometimes, their seconds in command for. While I am not 100% on this, I do suspect, ultimately, Irene will not be Moriarty, but rather one of his (or her) more prized lieutenants.

Secondary thoughts. After last night, it seems everyone is convinced that it isn't a fake out. And while I do think they can make it work in canon (i.e. Moriarty gets out of jail due to her connections, gets back to her business, continues to be a nemesis), it still seems like the finale was too neat. Everything was told and executed so neatly that is seems a front. Ugh, I don't even know now.

Thoughts from anyone else on the finale?

Oh wait, do you have a confirmed source for Lucy Liu's pregnancy? Because I couldn't find anything other than rumors, and her latest pictures from the CBS upfronts definitely don't show her with a belly. Considering the episode was shot at least a couple months prior, I would think she would be showing more now.
