JoeM's Poem: An Analysis

An analysis of JoeM's poem about the end of S4 and concerning S5. I will say I haven't any special info beyond that seen on his blog, so my word is neither completely baseless, nor entirely correct. It's just me, guessing. Spoilers for S4, including the most current aired ep, BAMSR.

This same time last year, on a bit of a lark,

I thought I would take some time off from the snark,

And compose a brief poem filled with puzzling clues,

For fans of the show to deduce should they choose.

As such I suppose I’ve raised expectations,

That this year include some like revelations,

Ensconced in an opus of rhythm and rhyme,

Awaiting discovery from those who have time.

While I hadn’t intended to write one this season,

I suppose it should certainly stand within reason,

That in order to get you to give it a rest,

I author another and grant your request.

(This of course amused me, because the poor man is just constantly pestered by dumb and repeated questions. Sometimes the two are mutually exclusive, sometimes not.)

So here is this year’s abstruse composition,

Designed for you fans who possess the volition,

To examine and study its cryptic contents,

In a bid to unearth hints to future events.

The brilliant one slowly loses his mind,

(McKay is the only option for this one. It could be Radek, but please. The brilliant one is totally McKay. And also, that being said, I could not be more excited! I LOVE the idea that something goes wrong with McKay's mind.)

While a group of replacements puts the team in a bind.

(Repliteam is back!! Will this be in regards to the Weir we saw at the end of BAMSR or separate?)

Wallace’s research a menace let loose.

(So, is it Jeannie herself? Or a whole different patient? And poor SGC. They thought they were done with the replicators. Maybe at some point, they'll learn not to mess with AI.)

The key to success is compress not diffuse.

(Aha! We just saw this one.)

A relationship blossoms, an engagement is planned.

(This immediately makes me think of McKay and Brown. I am going to cross my fingers and HOPE that it actually refers to Teyla and Kenan.)

An old enemy sweeps down and gains the upper hand.

(This could, of course, be anyone. But I'm hoping for Michael because they can't leave Vengeance like that.)

In an underground chamber the trio is stuck,

While Sheppard battles some really bad luck.

(Not a clue. I believe Joe M has mentioned an ep called Trio near the end of this season involving Keller, Carter, and McKay, though.)

A corpse is discovered and John plays detective.

(This THRILLS me. I've been wanting a CSI:Atlantis type ep. I hope they do it well.)

The city assailed by mutations infective.

Call the doctor from Earth to help us take action,

(Dr. Lam? Or a new Doctor? [Someone commented that this might be Dr. Fraiser and I was like bzwhah? She's dead, you know.])

As the death of a loved one spurs McKay into action.

(Please God let this be Katie. Also, if it is, then I have no worries for the other characters after Martin Gero just said he's planning on killing more main characters.)

Get talked into escorting a precocious young brat.

(Then again, this line and the last could refer to Jeannie, making the kid Madison. I'm doubting it's Teyla; highly doubtful. The 'brat' could also be the girl coming up in Harmony.)

The experiment’s minions the team will combat.

(This has to refer to Michael and the bug!men. Does that mean the last one refers to someone else, then?)

A battle is waged on the defender’s home field,

And the means of production is fully revealed.

(ZPMS!!!!)

Two warriors head off an incursion on Earth.

(Teyla and Ronon? If so, this definitely refers to S5 as JoeM has said no Teyla on Earth in S4.)

A mission is snagged by an untimely birth.

(Gee, I wonder what this refers to? Teyla and baby!)

The status quo shifts, a power play made.

The arrival of this one leave some feeling dismayed.

(Is this referring to baby, or the arrival of new personnel on Atlantis?)

An old friend returns, loyalties are reversed,

(Old friend could honestly refer to anyone. I'm thinking along the lines of Larrin, though, despite not really being a 'friend'.)

And a ghost from the past has us fearing the worst.

(Or the past two lines could be taken as one and it could mean carson. But really, I have no idea.)

Atlantis the target of a mysterious race,

While myriad permutations are viewed from space.

(AU ep!!!)

So just like last year here are intriguing notions,

Sure to, no doubt, stir up strong fan emotions.

But do keep in mind while you revel or groan,

That it’s still very early. Nothing’s written in stone.

Bonus that I think siberian_skys will enjoy: Torchwood S2 Spoiler...but it's hot men kissing!! Frankly, I'm willing to watch the show just for this scene!

I am all for them. And I'll take any spoilers if it has to do with the crushing defeat of Katie Brown. If it's good about her, I don't want to know. ;-)

LOL! You're mean!! :) Sorry, I haven't heard anything about Katie, good or bad. Here's my take on a few of the JM passages:

Wallace’s research a menace let loose. - This might actually have to do with the upcoming Shep ep, I think, in which a Replicater is found on Earth.

In an underground chamber the trio is stuck There IS an episode called Trio in which McKay, Carter, and Keller are stuck down a hole and have no means to escape.

Get talked into escorting a precocious young brat. That has to be Harmony, the episode in which Shep and McKay are charged with protecting a young princess.

Two warriors head off an incursion on Earth. Guessing this is the episode in which Chris Judge guest stars as Teal'c. He goes to Atlantis because the IOA is investigating (or something) Ronon for some reason.

Ok, so we match on three. That last one with teal'c, I didn't even think that. I was just assuming Teal'c was strictly on Atlantis. Interesting, though! Thanks for sharing.

And yes, I am mean. I have tried and tried, and I just can't do Katie. She bugs the living daylights out of me. She's slowly climbing to Diana Fowley level of irritating if not so much of a betraying bitch. LOL
