I think once it hit its stride, it really hit it. The first couple of episodes weren't amazing, but they were interesting and it built from there. It was just sad that the moment the axe fell, they began churning out these amazing episodes to which there could have been so much more.
For once, I'd really just like to be able to explore the full plan Joss has for his characters and stories. I have to agree with you about Buffy; it wasn't great. I enjoyed it, but some of it was just bad.
