My theory is still that Sylar and Nathan are characters that the writers have been trying to kill since S1, and were not able to due to fan popularity. This is their way to do that, free up some air time for some new/returning characters, and give ZQ more time to do a Star Trek movie (since the next one is probably due to start filming soon).
