Ah, race wank. It's been a long time.

My tumblr is suddenly exploding with people outraged. Someone insulted Benedict's casting as Khan (if he is Khan) because I guess Khan is Native American? I admit, I've only watched Wrath once and haven't done a lot of background reading on it (bad Star Trek fan, I know). Anyway, Khan is an ethnic character, Benedict is not, thus this is racist casting. (I can't explain more than that because the original post has been deleted.) Which, all that's fine, I'm not exactly a fan of whitewashing characters. But someone else comes along who is clearly a giant Benedict stan and says:

It is about acting. Good actors get good parts, and IMHO, Benedict could even play an amazing Martin Luther King. Because he is a very, very good actor and ST fandom should be happy and proud to have him.

And now everyone from every corner and fandom persuasion on tumblr is having a field day; tumblr is united for the first time ever. Namely, because, that person totally deserves to be given crap for their comments. Nothing against Benedict but, uh, no, he should not be playing MLK Jr no matter his acting level. *face palm*
